1.What are the challenges you face while covering
hate and crime news?
He told there are definitely some challenges which you face while
covering this type of news. There is risk when I go to cover such type
of news but what’s necessary is, your presence of mind when you cover
hate and crime news. I will tell you about an incident in 2020 North East
Delhi riots took place, and I got a call about this incident from my friend
who was living nearby. I don’t know what the enthusiasm at that was
time, I immediately went to reporting. While I was doing ground
reporting of the incident as soon as I said my name Rishikesh Sharma
people started staring me because at that time there was fear among
people about communal riots. So, it’s very important to keep your
presence of mind because sometimes identity revealing can harm you.
2.You are part of mojo team so how does it feel to work with
senior journalist Barkha Dutt who is part of the media
fraternity for more than 20 years?
It is privilege to work with her, a journalist who is part of this
industry from past 25 years. I get to learn so many things from her.
Although I don’t meet her everyday but whenever I do, I learn lot of
things from her and she is always there to guide her team.
3.You cover health beat as well and you have done ground
reporting during covid. So, how difficult was it for you? Also
what are the shortcomings of our government in health
department?
What I saw during covid was very horrifying scene. People were
unable to arrange oxygen. We were in touch with patient’s family, it was
so difficult for them to arrange oxygen cylinder. And not only covid
there are several health related issue in India. Recently I went with my
team to cover a documentary in Darbhangha where maternal mortality
rate is very high. There are shortcoming from government as well. He
further added you will be surprised to know several data are missing
from the file, which is not mentioned anywhere. Our main motive to run
such news is to gather government attention regarding such new, so they
can do something for them. We hope if the central is not paying
attention on such issues then state should look after and may be after
seeing this one of them pay attention towards this and work for the
welfare of people.
4.You have done your education from the best journalism
institute IIMC. So, what would you advice students for how
to crack entrance exam?
Coming from a village ,there was no plan for IIMC but it
happened and I was the topper when I gave the exam. I would advice
students to continue their hard work and success will come to their way.
Study hard you will easily able to crack the entrance exam.
5.Ever happened with you that you covered any news and
the pressure comes from government not to telecast because
that may tarnish the government image?
Till date it has never happened with me but yes in this field
people make pressure from above not to run any news which is against
the government.
