Dankaur, a village near Galgotia University in Greater Noida, faces a persistent and escalating issue with inadequate drainage infrastructure. Despite its location near a prominent educational hub, the village struggles with severe drainage challenges that compromise the health, safety, and overall well-being of its residents. This long-standing problem has become more critical in recent years due to rapid urbanization and the expansion of nearby commercial and educational developments.

The absence of a functional drainage system is particularly evident during the monsoon season when heavy rainfall causes significant waterlogging. Existing drainage systems, where present, are outdated, frequently clogged, and unable to handle the volume of water. As a result, large parts of the village, especially low-lying areas, experience prolonged flooding. Stagnant water creates breeding grounds for mosquitoes and increases the prevalence of diseases like malaria, dengue, and typhoid, posing serious health risks to the community.

Beyond health concerns, the poor drainage infrastructure disrupts daily life and economic activities. Narrow, poorly maintained roads become waterlogged and impassable during rains, making it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to markets. This results in financial losses and hinders the economic progress of the village. Furthermore, stagnant water mixed with sewage often seeps into the soil, contaminating groundwater and affecting the quality of drinking water, thereby compounding the health hazards.

The environmental impact is equally concerning. Open drains filled with stagnant water and plastic waste contribute to pollution and degrade the village’s surroundings. Efforts by residents to draw attention to these issues have yielded only temporary measures, such as occasional drain cleaning, which fail to address the root causes. The problem stems from inadequate planning and neglect of drainage systems during the development of the area.

A comprehensive approach is necessary to resolve Dankaur’s drainage challenges. This includes conducting a detailed survey to identify critical areas, constructing new drains, regularly maintaining existing systems, and implementing effective waste management practices to prevent clogging. Community awareness programs can educate residents on proper waste disposal, reducing the buildup of debris in drains.

Collaboration with institutions like Galgotia University and other local stakeholders can significantly aid these efforts. As an influential presence in the region, the university could work with authorities to fund and support infrastructure improvements, fostering a healthier environment for both the village and its academic community.

Addressing Dankaur’s drainage problems is a pressing priority that requires the combined efforts of the government, local authorities, and residents. A robust drainage system will enhance the health, safety, and quality of life in the village, ensuring sustainable development and a better future for its community.
