Donald Trump’s name has been recorded in the history of the United States but this time not in a good way .The businessman turned politician has been convicted in the hush money case 5 months before the presidential elections. With this he became the first ever former president to be trailed or convicted in the United States of America. But , what is the case all about ?Will Trump go to jail? What has trump got to say about this ? Can he still run for elections? And how is the general public reacting to this ?
In 2006 Donald Trump was physically involved with a women outside marriage .The women was a pornstar named Stormy Daniels .Years later in 2016 while contesting for the presidential elections he fretted that the news might leak so to buy her silence he paid her an amount of $130,000.
Paying hush money is not illegal but the way it was paid got him into trouble. The prosecution had quite a strong case and they put forth 20 witnesses in total and one of them was Trump’s fixer Michael Cohen, the man who paid the hush money . The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office alleges that Mr. Trump has been involved in falsification of the business documents to hide the records and to the legalize the whole matter.
Will trump go to jail ? Well it’s highly unlikely, the maximum punishment is of 4 years of imprisonment. But it’s not usually assigned for this kind of crimes and with the kind of influence that Trump holds, putting him behind the bars will be a tough thing to do .
Even after being convicted for a felony he can still run for the presidential elections. Quite different from India, a conviction there does not disqualifies one’s candidature .So, that’s not really a problem for Trump. Instead, he is trying to weaponize this conviction in his favour and trying to get people’s sympathy.
He has always portrayed himself as a political outcast, as someone who’s been pinpointed for even the smallest of the things that he does so this plays right into his narrative . They belief that all of this was purposefully rigged by Joe Biden to malign their leader’s Image. And to solidify this after the conviction people went to Trump’s Campaign website to donate money and the extensive traffic led to a website crash . Eventually the donations resumed and the Trump campaign has collected a donation of almost 35 million dollars.
People are on the streets to show their solidarity towards their leader . But the anti Trump protestors were seen celebrating.
