
Students of School of Media and Communication Studies at Dainik Jagran, Sec 63, Noida
On 4th Oct 2023, as part of the orientation program a group of 38 students of the batch 2023 from the School of Media and Communication Studies had the privilege of visiting the renowned and longstanding publication regarded as India’s no.1 Hindi Newspaper Dainik Jagran located at Sec-63, Noida, U.P. The purpose of this industrial visit was to provide students with real-world insights into the print media industry, its processes, and the latest technologies used in the field also to gain a firsthand understanding of the inner workings of a newspaper house, journalism practices, and the role of print media in today’s digital.
The main objectives of the industrial visit were as follows:
To understand the various processes involved in the print – media.
To gain insights into the latest printing technologies and equipment.
To observe the workflow and organization of a modern printing – press.
To interact with industry professionals and gain practical knowledge.
Dainik Jagran is known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and environmental sustainability. The visit to The Dainik Jagran Newspaper House was an eye-opening experience, exposing the students to the dynamic and fast-paced world of journalism. The students and two faculty members of SMCS Dr. Tasha Singh Parihar and Dr. Bhawani Shankar were warmly welcomed by the senior staff of the newspaper Mr. Rakesh Pandey, other journalists, and support staff. Their hospitality and willingness to share their insights immediately put the students at ease. The first stop was the editorial department, where students observed journalists busy at work. They were introduced to the editorial process, from story selection and research to writing and editing. Witnessing the dedication and commitment of the journalists left a profound impression on them. The newsroom was a bustling hub of activity, with reporters and editors collaborating to cover breaking news and prepare articles for publication. The fast-paced and deadline-driven environment was both exciting and intense. Students had the privilege of participating in discussions with experienced journalists. They shared their career journeys, the challenges they face, and the importance of impartial and accurate reporting in today’s media landscape. This was followed by a visit to the printing press of Dainik Jagran where students were exposed to the various crucial process of printing. Mr. Rakesh Pandey provided an overview of the various printing processes, including pre-press, printing, and post-press operations. This session gave us a clear understanding of the workflow. His guided tour of the printing press facility gave students the opportunity to witness the state-of-the-art printing machines in action, from offset presses to digital printers. The precision and efficiency of these machines were truly impressive. Students were shown the pre-press area where the design and layout of print materials are prepared. We learned about the importance of color management, image resolution, and the use of computer-aided design (CAD) software. Students were witnessing the actual printing processes. They saw how printing plates were prepared and mounted on the presses. The speed and accuracy of the printing machines were remarkable, and they observed the use of different printing techniques, including four-color process printing. They were introduced to the quality control measures in place at Dainik Jagran Press. Students learned about color calibration, registration checks, and quality assurance practices to ensure that every print job meets the highest standards. Then a tour of the post-press area where cutting, binding, and finishing operations take place. Students saw how printed materials are processed and prepared for delivery to clients. Throughout the visit, students had the opportunity to interact with the staff, including designers, printers, and quality control experts. They shared their experiences and insights into the printing industry, answered their questions, and offered career advice.The industrial visit to Dainik Jagran was an invaluable learning experience for all participants including the faculty members. It provided students with hands-on exposure to the printing industry, fostering a greater appreciation for the complexities and precision involved in the field.
