The “Central Board of Film Certification” (CBFC) is a statutory film-certification body which is under the ministry of information and broadcasting under the government of India. It is started with “regulating the public exhibition of films under the provision of Cinematography Act 1952.”
The censorship started in India because of an incident, in which when a movie “Keechaka Vadham” was screening, and a scene was filming from the epic “Mahabharata” in which Bheem while protecting Draupadi killed Keechaka and after seeing that scene in the film, some got faint and screamed. This created causalities in the theatre hall. After seeing this scenario, a decision was made that there should be any kind of body who can regulate the film industry and can certify the film, that it can be screened in front of the audience or not. Collectorate in the city was assigned the task of censoring the movies. The censor board got established in the year 1951.
The first Chairman was C.S.Aggrawal.
The current Chairman is Ravinder Bhakar.

The CBFC kas three kind of certifications under it:
1) U Certificate- these kinds of films are allowed for all age group and it’s a family movie no one has any kind of restrictions in watching these films.
2) U/A Certificate- these kinds of films have some kind of restrictions that only kids below 12 can watch this but under parents’ supervision. These kinds of films have less adult content.
3) A Certificate- these kinds of films have many kinds of restrictions that only people age of more than 18 can only watch the films, no kids are allowed to watch these films. These films have more adult content.
