GREATER NODIA: Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal sent to judicial custody till April 15 by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Monday, 1st of April 2024. Kejriwal taken in federal agency’s custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) which was the team of 12 after the enquiry with CM, on March 21, in connection with the alleged irregularities in the liquor policy case. BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia said on 28 March that Kejriwal can’t run the government from the lock up as he arrested in connection with an excise policy-linked money laundering case.
The ED has issued nine summonses to National Convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) since October and the latest summons was issued on March 21 but CM didn’t response any of the summonses where ED filed complaints against Kejriwal for skipping the first six summon.
The Delhi excise scam started with the statement of Manish Sisodia ,”When you go to a shop, there is a grille and people rush and throw money to buy liquor. There is no dignity. It will no longer be like that.” Delhi government take the policy in June 2021 for increasing the revenue or (VAT) and destroying the liquor mafia in Delhi through Delhi Excise policy, in which total 849 liquor are opened and all became privatised where government earn money by sell the license in and overall get 60% of benefit in taxes.
But after sometime many protest are held by residents and business owners were fed up and around 134 legal cases are filed against Delhi government like a case where residents of Jankpura filed a case against Delhi Government in Delhi HC for opening a liquor shop near a school and a hospital. After the price war many retailer leave the business and return their license to the government in which 9 zones out of 32 were empty in Delhi and till July 2022 only 464 liquor shop were left by this Delhi government face huge loss and for this AAP blamed former 21st Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Anil Bajaj where Manish Sisodia said ,‘This loss is because LG didn’t allow the shop to open.’
In July,2022 Naresh Kumar, Chief Secretary of Delhi summit a report to Vinai Kumar Saxena 22nd LG of Delhi in which he said that there are many irregularities in Delhi Excise policy and posed 3 allegation against government’s exercise department whose head was Manish Sisodia, then LG wrote letter to home ministry to asked for CBI investigation on the Delhi Excise Department where Arvind Kejriwal said,’ You didn’t get anything. I have known Sisodia for 22years and I have never seen anyone as honest or as much of a deshbhakt as him.’
During investigation, ED also involved in the case because of financial irregularity and started investigation under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The time period between September 2022 and February 2023, many people were arrested. CBI first arrest Vijay Nair, communication in-charge of AAP, where ED arrest people from liquor industry but the major shock come when CBI arrested Manish Sisodia and also get investigated by ED. ED also called Kejriwal 8 times for questioning but got no replies and ED said,’ Kejriwal was a Chief Conspirator in this liquor scam.’
Kejriwal goes to Delhi HC where HC denied any kind of interim Security. With 10th summon Kejriwal got arrested by ED and now he is in Tihar Central Jail (No 2) under the excise scam and Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has sent Kejriwal to judicial remand till April 15. Kejriwal seeking bail to come out of Jail to jion janta.
