Nowadays, Social media is the rapidly growing platforms in the world. Most of the population are engaged in social media in which they share their thoughts, ideas, pictures, videos etc . It is a platform which gives an environment to people through which they can connect with each others from any parts of the world.
Social media has many advantages like people can connect with other others, share information, can do online business from social media but It has one harsh reality i.e., *TROLLING*.
Trolling refers to when some people say mean things, do offensive comments, post disruptive memes or message someone in a very disrespectful way in social media . It can be done for various reasons such as with the intention of provoking emotional or argumentive reactions, for attention seeking and even ideologically sometimes. It might seems like a joke but it is a very big problem .
Trolling is a social issue because it often leads to online conflicts, cyberbullying, depression etc. It force users to change their real identity like: If a fat person post their pictures on social media , some people do comments such as “ you’re fat”, “you’re ugly”, “ nobody likes you” etc and just same with skinny person like “ you’re flat”, “skinny”, etc by which the users feel insecure about their own identity.
It can affect someone’s mental health so badly that they choose to harm themselves, develop suicidal thoughts on their mind and in the worst situations, suicide. For example : A boy aged 16 years old who was an influencer on instagram committed suicide because he was getting trolled by people just because he posted a reel in which he was wearing saree and had makeup on his face.
Trolling has a negative impact on trust in online platforms. If users feel unsafe or uncomfortable in online spaces, they may leave social media platforms and limit the opportunities for positive collaboration and engagement.
Cyberbullying doesn’t hurt just one person. It spreads like a dark cloud over social media. It can make the online world feel less friendly and more like a place where people are scared to share things.
While some people use social media positively , there are some people who misuse it . They make fake accounts using pictures of other person and give threats to users like demanding money , posting derogatory statements or pictures , use disrespectful words while texting etc to various users.
The solution to stop social media trolling is :1. To establish clear rules for respectful behaviour and consequences for violating them. 2. Use technology and human control to identify and remove trolling. 3. Take actions to prevent the creation and use of fake profiles for trolling purposes.
In conclusion, Trolling might seems like a small issue but it is a huge problem for many users. By being kind and reporting trolls and supporting each other , we can make social media a safer, friendlier and happier environment for everyone.
