Sunday, Delhi NCR woke up with another bone-chilling cold wave as the minimum temperature slipped to 3.6 Celsius as very dense fog covered the region making the visibility zero. The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert in Delhi NCR and issued a warning of a cold wave in several parts of the region. As the cold wave that was sweeping the Delhi-NCR continued, the people are facing problems due to this cold wave.
According to the IMD, the lowest temperature was 3.4 degrees in Lodi Road, 3.6 in Safdarjung, 3.9 in Ridge, 5.8 in Palam, and 6.1 in Greater Noida. According to the Railway Ministry around more than 22 trains to Delhi from various parts of the country are running almost 24 hours late due to the dense fog in the northern railways amongst them Gondwana Express is almost 22 hours late and around 150 flights, several from IGI Airport are delayed due to the thick fog.
There was absolute no visibility near the airport. Several Airlines have reported “weather challenges” as well. Furthermore, IndiGo has stated that inclement weather may cause disruptions to their flight schedules. “Due to prevailing weather challenges in northern India, our flight schedules may experience interruptions!,” IndiGo Airlines wrote on X. The passengers are facing a lot of problems due to these delays in the flights and railways.
This winter, Delhittes have experienced three consecutive cold days with a minimum temperature of 4.5 Celsius. A cold wave recorded the temperature around 2 Celsius. An official from the India Metrological Department said that the clear skies have been seen in some parts of the region and it has lowered the mercury and the calm winds have allowed fog to form close to the surface.
Because of the cold wave, the daily wagers are facing many problems from fruit vendors to local sweepers, due to this weather the danger of hypothermia and other health problems is increasing, and with the covid coming our way, it’s more than important to protect ourselves from this wave. Not only this but due to the drop in the temperature the crop is getting worse and also worsening the condition of land animals and stray animals like dogs, cows, and cats who are in desperate need of shelter are getting sick.
The cold wave along with the air pollution in which according to the IMD Delhi’s AQI has reached the condition of extremely poor and the government has urged people to wear masks while going out and take proper precautions.

Due to the thick fog, Yamuna Expressway had zero visibility on Saturday and the chances of an accident have increased. Galgotias University situated in Gautam Buddha Nagar of Greater Noida is experiencing a very thick layer of fog and students have been facing severe problems due to this cold wave since the temperature has dropped to 6 celsius and the classes start from 8 in the morning, the students are coming with several layering of clothes.
