Greater Noida: Domestic violence and divorce related cases have been increasing and have touched all-time high in Greater Noida in past sometime. Surajpur court in Greater Noida witnesses highest number of family related cases in comparison to the other regions of Uttar Pradesh. A Noida based police station official confirmed that over two hundred cases have been registered in a specific police station within past one and a half month. The main reason behind these was dowry.

Advocate Kamlesh Bhati of Surajpur Court said that women should know their rights to avoid any unwarranted situation in life. The more knowledge they have, the better it is for them. These cases of violence affect the environment of the house leading to subsequent bad effect on the children. Advocate Sourav Nagar said that government should take swift action against this situation and spread awareness within the society.

According to The National Family Health Survey (NFHS), 2019-2021, 29.3 percent of married Indian women between the ages of 18 and 49 have experienced domestic/ sexual violence at least once in their lifetime. 3.1 percent of pregnant women have suffered physical violence during their pregnancy. Senior advocate Jai Lal said that government is considerate about such cases and mentioned that a specific bill allowing justice to women within 3 years of the initial complain will be soon introduced. This will help women in getting justice faster.  He further stated that the government should use social media, community events and educational programmes to pass on the information and awareness amongst the citizens.
