The Gaganyaan spacecraft was launched at 10:00 AM on October 21, 2023 from Sriharikota by India’s Space Agency ahead of its planned mission to take astronauts into space by 2025.
It was a test flight to space for the future target of the space agency of India to send astronauts to space by the year 2025. Overall the mission was successful at the second attempt as on the first attempt it was put on hold for 5 seconds. The test was all about checking whether the crew could safely escape the aircraft in case of malfunctioning.
“I am very happy to announce the successful accomplishment of the TV-D1 (Test Vehicle Demonstration 1) mission,” S Somanath, chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), said after the launch while his colleagues were celebrating their success.
This space mission will lead to sending robots in space by the next year under unnamed missions being organized by ISRO. The sending of humans to earth’s lower orbit by the year 2025 will be followed after the successful completion of all tests being organized.
The launch, which was initially planned for 8:00 AM, was delayed for 45 minutes due to “weather-related issues”. Then, five seconds before the launch, the ground computer issued a hold command after it detected an anomaly in the system.
After the launch, a series of parachutes were deployed as the module began its descent to help ensure a safe touchdown in the waters of Bay of Bengal, about 10 km from Sriharikota coast.
