17th March, New Delhi: The Sem II students of MJMC from the Department of Mass Communication, Galgotias University attended the International Association of Women in Radio & Television (IAWRT) Film Festival which showcased works of women of Asian origin in a range of genres- student film, documentary, fiction, experimental, and animation. This exercise of educational visit led to stimulating discussions on the craft, the festival screening more than 60 films for the three days event the 15th,16th & 17th of March. Over the years IAWRT has attracted diverse audiences—from the curious cinephile to the well-read connoisseur. The MJMC students studying courses namely Film Studies, Audio – Video Production and Research in Film found this educational visit very useful as students got exposed to international films which help them understand the aesthetics of film making, direction, selection of shots and concept driven scripting for film etc. Students were engaged in film review writing exercise by their faculty members Dr. Tasha Singh and Ms. Suruchi Agarwal who accompanied them to the festival. The festival director Dr. Gauri D Chakraborty introduced the students to the various student centric activities being held in the festival along with the film screening.
This year’s festival showcases over 60 films from over 20 countries directed by Asian women filmmakers or of Asian origin. The festival organisers received over 1300 entries to the festival which is the highest ever till date.
Launched in 2005, the International Association of Women in Radio & Television (IAWRT) Film Festival is a huge success every year.
