Air pollution is mixture of harmful gases present in air resulting in health issues.
These materials are in the form of solid, liquid or gas. Delhi, the national capital
of India but this capital comes under the most polluted capital in the world.
Government has given orders to close schools for few days.
Delhi- NCR enters third stage of anti-pollution plan. The blurry morning where
we were not able to see the road with less than 100-meter visibility. This
pollution has made fog got mix with smog. Making the visibility criteria lower
than the normal one. There were multiple accidents happening on highways
making it compulsory for the government to take severe strict decision. Drivers
are not able to locate the vehicle running in front of them. This causes number
of accidents daily on the roads of Delhi and Delhi-NCR. Polluted air creates
blurry day and nights with low visibility
The quality spectrum is classified under four different layers.
- Layer 1 have AQI between 201-300.
- Layer 2 have AQI between 301-400.
- Layer3 have AQI between 401 and 450.
- Layer have AQI above 450.
After Deepawali the pollution range in Delhi was always above 200 AQI.
Delhi’s last 24-hour air quality report was 288 which not considered good.
Making the situation worse for the people living there. Many people were
having breathing issues as the air quality was making their lungs struggle to get
pure air in it. Every winter Delhi’s pollution is always on the prime show
debate. Always the topic deals with burning of crops in Haryana and Punjab.
Delhi has become the prime sector for pollutants to fly that area.
Governments are banning the selling of crackers and construction work in the
capital. But nothing is making a change for the people of Delhi. This year Delhi
government has started a project to trace the exact source of pollution and
pollutants. According to studies conducted by several scientists’ petrol, diesel,
burning coal, industrial waste, burning firecrackers etc. contribute highly to
pollution.
Causes of Pollution the capital
Reasons for the pollutants flying in the air are infinite in number. But there are
few highlighted reasons for the air pollution. One of the major reasons is the
burning of crops in Punjab and Haryana. The ashes fly till Delhi and disturb the
breathing cycle of people of Delhi.
Another reason for the flying pollutants is emission of carbon elements from the
vehicle. Every has at least one vehicle in their home. From past few years there
have been tremendous increase in number of vehicles affecting the
environmental condition of Delhi.
Delhi is an over populated union territory with humans making flats and
buildings for their dream home. Use of cement in making of buildings gives
birth to certain type of pollutants. Basically, construction activity is one of the
reasons for pollution in Delhi.
Not only this people use AC at their home which still disturbs the air quality
making it hard for people to breath that air. There is the other but the most
controversial reason which is Deepawali. This is the festival of lights but the
sound and gas released from crackers creates the pollution. With the burning of
fire crackers, wood and crops simultaneously cause heavy smog and suffocating
environment. The cold and damp weather add fuel to fire to the situation
making it worse.
Also, there is a mountain in Delhi made with dirt which continuously burns and
releases harmful gases. This is the reason why Delhi is breathing the poison.
People don’t keep the wet and dry waste on separate bucket resulting it in
development of pollutants.
Also, Industrial pollution is another reason for the ashes flying in the air.
According to sources, Power plants and the famous Badarpur thermal Power
Station contribute around 80% to 90% of pollution.
Effects of Air Pollution
These pollutants in the air creates lot of health problems. Majorly breathing
issue is observed in the national capital. People are observed wearing face
masks because of these harmful gases present in the air. These pollutants create
a lot of health problems for the people living in Delhi. Like Respiratory
problems, dry cough, wheezing, sore throat headaches, eye irritation, heart
diseases, prevent flow of oxygen in blood, birth defect etc.
Control measure to lower the pollution level - Pollution check should be done of vehicle.
- Green crackers should be used in Deepawali.
- Plant more and more trees.
- Encourage people to use public transport.
- Don’t burn garbage or leaves.
- Halt on all the construction activity for some time.
If the continues to be the same for some years it will affect more of climate
change. This will create new type of viruses and health issues. Despite many
measures by government, the air quality is not improving in any manner rather
it deteriorates every season. This is due to public and relevant authorities are not
co-operating.
