It is the dream of our chief minister Nitish Kumar to make the Patna a smart City But can this dream if
fulfilled? The government is trying to sell Patna as a world Class city, but the ground reality is pathetic. A
survey conducted by an NGO reveals That 52% of the people in Patna dump their garbage in open
spaces. Nowadays People were suffering from many kinds of problems due to this. Some medical
experts and the local residents claim that the increasing garbage Pollution is contributing to severe
impacts to health. Patna is declared as one of the dirtiest cities in the Swachh Survekshan survey in 2020.
We can see piles of Garbage in every locality or street of Patna. The ever garbage condition is getting
Worse day by day. Instead of improving this situation, we are only worsening it. Patna is one of the
worst cities in terms of solid waste management. One can see Heaps of solid waste piled up on the
banks of the Ganga River here as well on the Roadsides. From the data available in the public domain,
CSE has estimated that Bihar currently produces over 2,500 tones per day (TPD) of solid waste, about
10,00,000 lakhs annually. Of this, Patna alone accounts for 42%, Bhagalpur 12% And Muzaffarpur 10%.
The Patna Municipal corporation is responsible for Solid Waste Management in our city.
Until 2018, people throw garbage in the street’s open pits, or at community dumping points. After
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan municipal corporation started door to door waste collection movement. This
step helps quite a lot to improve the garbage problem but still, there is a long Way to go. In the recent
result of Swachh Sarvekshan 2021 Patna perform very poorly as the city has ranked 44 out of 48 cities
with a population of above 10 Lakh in the country in the results of Swachh Sarvekshan 2021. There is a
long way ahead of us to make the Patna neat and clean. If people and the government work together
we can make the possible impossible.
