On Wednesday 14 Government said that they are planning to commission 20 new nuclear power plants
by 2031. This will add nearly 15000 MW in power generating capacity.
The first of these nuclear plants will be commissioned in Gujarat at the end of 2023. Gujarat already has
three atomic power generating units operational.
The 500 MW Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam is anticipated to become operational in
2024, followed by two 1,000 MW units at Kudankulam in 2025, according to a written response from the
Minister of State Jitendra Singh.
According to him, two 700 MW units at Rawatbhata in Rajasthan are anticipated to be finished by 2026,
and two additional 1,000 MW units at Kudankulam are anticipated to be finished by 2027.
In Gorakhpur, Haryana, two 700 MW units are anticipated to be finished by 2029, the minister said while
outlining specifics of projects under consideration.
Additionally, the government had granted administrative approvals and financial sanctions for the
construction of 10 nuclear power units, each with a capacity of 700 MW, at Gorakhpur in Haryana (units
3 and 4), Kaiga in Karnataka (units 5 and 6), Chutka in Madhya Pradesh (units 1 and 2), and four units at
Mahi Banswara in Rajasthan. It is most likely to be completed in the year 2031.
