On 3 April, a 21-year-old IIT Guwahati undergraduate student was detained on rape accusations. The victim is the 19-year-old junior of the accused. On March 28, 2021, the event occurred. The girl was discovered unconscious outside her hostel and taken to the IIT-G campus hospital, where she was treated before being transferred to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
According to the FIR, she went to discuss her role for a club named economics and finance group as a joint secretory but they first knocked her unconscious and raped her.
According to an interview with students conducted by East Mojo, the kids were dissatisfied with staying at the club. According to the circumstances, the woman was kept unconscious for more than two hours, and after reviewing her medical records, it was determined that this may be a serious instance of sexual assault.
Four more individuals have also been linked to the accused; however, the students are attempting to hide their participation.
The victim is seeking justice, and the convicted should be held accountable. On the 23rd of August, judge Ajit Borthakur gave his judgment, the accused was released based on his academic performance; the accused was stated to be an asset to the state in the future.
The accused was charged with sexual offenses under section 120B which is stated as criminal conspiracy, 328 states hurting someone with poison, 376 for rape, and 307 for an attempt to murder the Indian penal code. Both parties were heard, and the court assessed and reviewed the FIR and medical reports. The accused was given bail after a three-month summons and inquiry.
