It was mid 90s, I was a young Lieutenant and was posted some where in Kargil sector. Was given a task of constructing few ‘Bunkers’ in the face of the enemy. However the enemy being hostile was not letting us to construct any bunker. My predecessor tried his best but was fired upon when ever they tried to build one. It was my turn now, I gave orders for construction and carried out few explosive blasts to break the rocks. With the blast sound, the enemy who were 500 mts in front of us got alerted and raised the red flag. Raising red flag by enemy means, stop your work else they will fire on us. Seeing the RED flag, I too alerted my troops to retaliate the enemy fire if they fire. One of the jawan says “saab woh dushman ka red flag nahi hai koi ladki lal kapde mein dushman ke post pe hai” that gave me hearty laugh. When threat is eminent still my jawan is in jolly mood and sees a woman rather enemy intention of firing at us. Well’ the RED flag did not deter us from completing my task which was completed without any loss of life.
