All human beings are born as equal – free in dignity and rights. The word right are defined as “privilege” by some critics. Human rights are moral principles or norms or values which are described such as the standards of human behavior. The rights are being commonly understood as those rights which are inherited by the fact of being human. They are said to be rights because those are certain things that one is allowed to be, to do, or to have which is there for one’s protection against people who might harm them. 80% of the public know something about their rights. Generally, people know that they have the right to food and a safe place to stay. They know they have a right to be paid for whatever work they do. When human rights are unaware to the people there arises discrimination, intolerance, injustice, oppression, slavery etc. The idea of human rights is based on the belief that every human being is permitted to enjoy his/her rights without any discrimination.

Media plays a major role in protecting and promoting human rights in the world. It makes people aware about their rights, admit its violations and focus its attention on people and areas where there is need for protection of human rights and follow their case till they achieve them properly. It is said that media can play a valuable role in creating larger awareness of the idea of human rights. Basic human rights that would form the right of every individual to his fundamental freedom without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion.

According to our highly industrialized society, the media is one of the pillars of power. That’s why we need to become skilled at every aspect. Media plays an important role in our day to day life. It actually makes the common people aware about different things happening around them, educate them, and also entertain them. The major role of media in society is to bring news, information’s, and give analysis on various issues to the public. It creates pressure on decision makers or law enforcers to do their job properly. It also provides platform for discussions and feedback on issues. It also plays a role of “protector” of little people, especially in the countryside.

Human rights and Media, both plays an important role in the contemporary world that evolves and redefine the modern era. The role of media in protecting and supporting human rights is very well known to us, but there have been a lot of controversies over the changing scenario of media in the recent times and its impacts on the human rights coverage. Today we all live in the modern technological world where everything is very easy to know or acquire any types of issues within seconds throughout the world. Followers of television and internet users are increasing day by day, so it is very easy to protect human rights with the help of mass media. It is also very easy to motivate about human rights to the citizens of the world. Daily newspapers that we read always focus on human rights.  Even the government of each state has taken many steps to protect human rights because of mass media. Everyone should keep in mind about their human rights and whether all the rights are being implemented or followed properly. Human rights aim to promote the dignity of the human person. It is applicable to all human being whatever its nationality, its ethnic or social origins or religions be. Nobody can be deprived of human rights without being a victim of a serious injustice. Human rights are the “common language to humanity”. Many studies are conducted on media and human rights which mostly dwell on analyzing the frequency of human rights terms, especially in the print media such as newspapers and magazines.
